This Register is goldmine of information for anyone researching the history of the Welsh in Ohio and especially those Welsh people who settled in the north-east of the state, in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
The book was at hand during the annual reunion of the "Association of former residents of the Old Land" so that the Welsh settlers who had congregated could record their details in it.
The details of over 4000 men, women and children are in it - the youngest was a year old and the eldest 98 - and these records show that there were Welsh pioneers from all parts of the motherland and from every tier of society here.
The book has nearly 150 pages, divided into seven columns as follows:
| Name - Enw; | | Home in Wales - Cartref yng Nghymru;
|
| Residence - Trigfan; | | Occupation - Galwedigaeth;
|
| Age - Oedran; | | Remarks - Nodiadau;
|
| Emigrated to U.S. - Ymfudo i'r U.D.

The Register was presented as a gift to the Welsh Pioneers Association of Mahoning Valley by J Howard Edwards, Youngstown, in August 1898.

The aim of the Welsh Pioneers Association of Trumbull and Mahoning counties was to:
"Hold an annual meeting for the mental well-being of its members and to give them the opportunity to renew old acquaintances, remember old friends, and to keep alive through conversation and speech the old history of the valley."
The book includes:
• the constitution and rules of the association (Welsh);
• a list of members;
• minutes of meetings held over a period of ten years;
• newspaper cuttings describing the annual reunions.
The annual reunions of the Welsh Pioneers Association were extremely popular. In 1896 for example, it was estimated that 5,000 from the area of Mineral Ridge, Warren, Niles, Girard and Hubbard had congregated for the reunion in Youngstown:
"- five thousand honorable, smart, respectful and pleasant Welsh people, representing nearly a century of days, speaking Welsh, enjoying a Welsh feast together, singing old Welsh tunes together ..."
The numbers increased year after year and according to the report published in The Youngstown Daily Vindicator it was estimated that 23,000 had attended the picnic which was held in Avon Park in 1903.
